At the end of our date - a poem

At the end of our date - A poem by P.K. Odendaal - March 2019

At the end of our date we pondered our fate
Whether indeed it was to be sweet
Or whether some  fairy made us say something scary
Or the moon did not shine for most of the time.

We so wanted the date to go on till late
But something went wrong as the night went along
And why it went sour at the end of some hour
We are really not sure and had to endure
Whatever came after as it turned to disaster
As things sometimes do when we say I love you.

A kiss could have saved the way we behaved
As we both were aware of the way we did care
For the success of the night and for things to go right
But love come and go to let us all know
That nothing is gained when someone is shamed
Of trivial things which often laughter brings

However its fine if either party decline
To go on with the game or end it in shame
Or else give up all chances for further advances
And so let it choke and go up in smoke
Which might not suit the brave and astute
But it's a way out without any doubt
By saving your face or end up in disgrace.

This date after all was not meant as a ball
But merely to find out if there was some doubt
Of the two of you seeing it through

And in some cases it's over before you can say clover
And sometimes may strech on until it is dawn.
So one never knows where the thing goes
And only find out what it all was about
When you have left the scene and the things in between.

  1. Sounds like a movie and you the main character. You can play with words and seems to me with hearts as well. Reading your blog, you surprise me from time to time. One day would like to sit and talk to you and read your mind. Reeza
