No room for gloom

No room for gloom – a poem by P.K. Odendaal – November 2018

There lived in the land of Id* some folks
Who thought that life was full of jokes
So they started out without any doubt
To make sure their fans were very poor
And showered upon them words and mayhem
To make them fear for the stories they hear
Knowing quite well that the stories they tell
Were lies and jokes to confuse most folks.

So that they were in need of the utmost deceit
To allay the fears they had harboured for years
As it is easy to make such a stupid mistake
By listening to lies when nobody dies.
Remembering the Elixir of Love** was always a bluff
which made people's hope go up in smoke.
By making them think there's a potion in the drink
To act as a buffer against the ailments they suffer.

Don't think the things that I hide for the sake of my pride
does not earn your earnest concern
because it’s not for fools that I write these rules
But for you who are immune to any old tune.
That you hear people play at the market by day
and the things which we miss are not really a bliss
but a call to be heard unto things absurd
Like politics and fame that cause people shame
and let them draw back from the things which they lack
Instead to stand fast while their energy last.

* Id is the land where the Idiots live
